Dear members,

Annabel Dyson, Matilda Edwards, Poppy Higgins and Saaga Niemi from Kellett School enjoyed the prize of one-week training at the Ingestre Stables, UK

The final of the Hong Kong Equestrian Federation (HKEF) Inter-school Equestrian Challenge 2019 was successfully held on 4th May 2019 at Lo Wu Saddle Club. Kellett School (BISHK) and Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong (NAISHK) emerged victorious in the Higher and Lower Divisions respectively. Winners of the Lower Division, Emma Aaten, Erik Gaarder, Naomi Khaira and Sylvie Lung from Nord Anglia International School, will receive a special training session from Mr. Tim Downes, FBHS in Hong Kong during November 2019; while the Higher Division winners, Annabel Dyson, Matilda Edwards, Poppy Higgins and Saaga Niemi from Kellett School, won a week of riding and training at Ingestre Stables in Staffordshire, sponsored by the HKEF.

Annabel, Matilda, Poppy and Saaga, accompanied by their Chef d’Equipe, Melissa Edwards, enjoyed their trip to the prestigious Ingestre Stables from 22-29 June 2019. Based in Staffordshire, UK, Ingestre provides high standards of training for all levels of riders on well-schooled horses that meet the examination standards of the British Horse Society up to the highest level – the Fellowship.

During the one-week trip, the four riders had 3 lessons per day on average, including flat, jump and stable management, instructed mainly by Time Downes, FBHS, Rob Parkes, FBHS and Andrew Benny, FBHS. Riders also paid for extra private lessons and took the opportunity to learn by observing others. In addition to daily lessons, the girls joined an informal in-house jumping competition and competed at both 70-80cm and 80-90cm. The week was concluded by one of the highlights of the trip, the river hack, where Tim Downes took the girls on a hack to the local river. Both riders and their Chef d’Equipe agreed that their riding skills had significantly advanced through the training received over the course of the week.

The HKEF Inter-school Equestrian Challenge is the largest equestrian competition for young riders in the region. For thirteen years, local and international schools have participated actively in the competition, which encourages students to improve their riding skills. This year around 130 entries from 25 schools were received and we expect its popularity to grow in 2020.

We look forward to your continued enthusiastic support of the HKEF Inter-school Equestrian Challenge next year.

Best Regards,

Hong Kong Equestrian Federation
