Dear members,

The CSIJ-B Bangkok @ The Princess’s Cup Thailand 2022 was held from Friday to Monday, 18 – 21 November 2022 at The Royal Stable Unit and the Royal Horse Guard, Bangkok, Thailand. Hong Kong Team, comprising Angel Chen, Fabiola Chong and Charmaine Ip, supported by Team Coach Anais Chauvin, competed against 27 other riders from 7 countries.

The CSIJ-B kicked off on Sunday 20 November with the Team Competition at 100cm with Two Rounds running under Table A. Competing against 9 teams, Fabiola was the first to go for Hong Kong, riding I CAN FLY (PRINCE CASPIAN) to finish with combined 16 faults in 74.18 seconds at the second round. Charmaine on VALERO completed with 16 total faults in 66.72 seconds, while Angel and COOL DE REVE with a total of 8 faults in 61.75 seconds. Thailand playing on home soil won the Team Champion, followed by Indonesia and Malaysia.

All three riders have completed the two rounds of the Team Competition. However, as only a maximum of two riders per team can move to the Individual Competition on Monday 21 November, Angel and Charmaine have represented Hong Kong at the individual event.

20 out of 30 riders competed at the CSIJ-B Individual (110cm), which was running under Table A against the clock with a Jump-Off, placings determined by the penalties and time taken to complete the round. Both Charmaine riding VALERO and Angel on COOL DE REVE achieved a clear round in 72.71 and 77.13 seconds respectively and entered to the Jump-Off with 8 other riders who also had a clear round.

After a keen Jump-Off, Charmaine had an unfortunate elimination and sat in 10th place, while Angel placed 6th with 4 faults in 48.56 seconds. The Individual Champion was taken home by Waruesa Pavasantanon from host country Thailand in 45.39 seconds, while the second and third places went to Singapore’s Xiang Shi and Chinese Taipei’s Hung-Shen Chen respectively.

Team Coach Anais Chauvin says, “Thailand was very welcoming. On the first day, we were faced with a row of challenges, but the riders managed to ignore any distractions that may limit their performance and focused enough to gain an incredible understanding of their horses. Their determined attitude was the reason for their amazing rounds, allowing Hong Kong to reach top 10 on the leader board. It was a real pleasure to coach the HK team, who showed astounding sportsmanship which did not go unnoticed by the other teams and officials. They profusely complimented on their riding skills and team spirit. It was a great honour to lead the HK team during these 3 days in a great environment.”

The HKEF would like to extend our gratitude to Angel, Fabiola, Charmaine and Anais for their effort in representing Hong Kong at the competition. Thanks also goes to Thailand organiser for the invitation, as well as the support from parents and riding schools in making this trip possible. We look forward to more international competition opportunities for our young riders in the future.

Also stay tuned to the National Youth Showjumping Championship 2022 in Shanghai, China this weekend. 6 junior riders will represent Hong Kong to compete in the Youth and Junior events.

Best Regards,

Hong Kong Equestrian Federation
