Completion of Dressage Judges’ Training on Judging Online presented by Dressage Anywhere on 29 Apr 2021
Following the judges’ training in early January, the HKEF continues to collaborate with Ms. Nereide Goodman and Ms. Ruth Chappell, co-founders of the Dressage Anywhere, to launch the fifth Dressage Judges’ Training on Judging Online for HKEF listed dressage judges last evening.
The evening took a different approach from previous sessions, separating the training into 2 halves for different level judges. Sample video tests were given to judges in advance, but marks and comments were kept by judges themselves for discussions.
At the beginning of the training, 4 Hong Kong judges namely Peta McAuley, Danny Tong, Christian Allderidge and Boris Yue shared their online judging experience and problems encountered with all the rest of our local judges.
Ruth and Nereide said, “It was interesting to hear from the four judges from Hong Kong about their experience of judging online and we look forward to welcoming more HKEF judges to judge future online competitions. We’ve enjoyed being able to offer a competition experience for HKEF riders during this difficult period and many have gained valuable experience that they can work on further with their coaches.”
Furthermore, two sample Dressage videos on Preliminary and Advanced Medium levels were reviewed by all participants followed by a Q & A session.
According to Nereide, accuracy especially at Preliminary level where the movements required are very basic but it must not be at the expense of any of the other requirements the judge is also looking at – rhythm, tempo, suppleness, balance and contact. If all these are fulfilled and the movement is carried out in the right place then a high mark is deserved.
The training ended with very fruitful discussion related to judging flying changes, pirouettes and extended paces.
