Dear members,

We are very pleased to announce that the winner of the HKEF Senior Inter-school Eventing Challenge 2022 is Charmaine Ip of King George V School (KGV). Although there has been no final leg of the competition this year, the judges have been able to use the results from the earlier four one-day events to make their determination.

A total of 11 riders entered the Senior Inter-school Eventing Challenge. They were required to participate in at least two of the six scheduled eventing competitions held by BREC in this season (26 Sep, 23 Oct, 27 Nov, 11 Dec, 8 Jan and 5 Feb) and to complete at least one competition without elimination in order to proceed to the final as part of the Eventing Horse of the Year Show. Competitors normally carry forward 20% of the penalties drawn from their best result in any of the earlier competitions, which is then added to their total penalties.

However, given that the last two one-day events had to be cancelled due to the temporary closure of riding schools, each rider’s best result from the first four competitions has been used to calculate the final ranking – similar to the method used in 2020.

Following the BREC One Day Event on 11 December, nine competitors had qualified for the final by competing at least two competitions. Charmaine had competed in all four one-day events and showed steady progress from 80 cm to the higher 90 cm class. Her best score of 14.2 was followed by Anita Qian (Hong Kong International School) in second place (15.14) and Julie Bardin (KGV) third (15.28).

As this year’s champion, Charmaine receives HKEF funding worth HK$10,000 towards an approved programme of training of her choice. The winner will also receive a trophy, HK$3,000 voucher, helmet, show jacket and competition shirt generously sponsored by Horse & Hound Hong Kong.

The HKEF would like to congratulate Charmaine and also recognise the effort and progress made by all participating riders. Our thanks also goes to all parents, instructors and supporters who have helped them along the way. We look forward to seeing many of you again in the new season!

With our very best regards,

Hong Kong Equestrian Federation
