An end of Season review meeting coorganized by HKEF and HKJC was held on 27 June with all riding schools representatives. Different comments from members, competitors as well as from the mentioned meeting regarding the Horse of the Year Awards Calculation Method were consolidated and later followed up by the HKEF Rules Subcommittee.

During the off season period, HKEF Rules Subcommittee has reviewed and compared the outcome of the existing and various proposed Horse of the Year Awards Calculation Methods. We would like to share with you the below summary of major changes on the Horse of the Year Awards Calculation Method for 2019 – 2020 compared to the one from last year as below:

Jumping Horse of the Year Award (The Good King Cup)

Add ‘90cm class’ & ‘95cm class’ as graded classes

Add Double Clear Point(s): Double Clear Point(s) will be awarded to the rider achieving double clear rounds at 100cm or above competitions consisting of 2 rounds (run under FEI Jumping Rules Art. 273), but will not be awarded to riders with placing points

Dressage Horse of the Year Award (Dragon Hall Dressage Trophy)

Revised the determining factor to be the sum of accumulated points for up to a maximum of EIGHT best results instead of the sum of maximum five best results from the highest percentages.

Revised the scoring table for different percentages achieved at different competition levels

Revised the requirements for eligible level/ grading system:

Instead of having some maximum points preset for different competition levels, as long as a horse-rider combination has achieved a score of 65% or above at any given level in five graded tests, the combination must then move onto the next level.

- For example a horse-rider combination who scores 65% or above in five Preliminary classes will have to move up to the novice level and will no longer be eligible to enter preliminary level classes.

Eventing Horse of the Year Award

Add Clean Completion Points (CCP): Clean Completion Points (CCP) will be awarded to riders who attained the minimum requirements in each phase in HKEF 80cm or above classes. They will not be awarded to riders with placing points.

Clean Completion Points (CCP) will be awarded to riders who attained the minimum requirements in each phase in HKEF 80cm or above classes stated below:

  1. a) Dressage Test: not more than 40 penalties (or at least 60%)
  2. b) Cross Country Test: A clear round at obstacles and fewer than 20 time faults
