Dear members,

OLYMPICS UPDTAES –Cross Country Mission Completed for Thomas Ho and Tayberry at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games today!

Sunday, 1 August 2021 (Hong Kong) – Coming to the second phase of Eventing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the Cross Country competition started today at the Sea Forest Cross-Country Course, Tokyo. Hong Kong Equestrian rider Thomas Ho and his long-term partner Tayberry completed the round this morning.

The 4420-metre course comprised of 23 obstacles including natural fences, logs, tables, water combinations, drop and ditches. The pair had a careful and skilful ride at the course and managed to complete the round. They will be competing at the last phase of Jumping Team Final & Individual Qualifier tomorrow, 2 August, in the afternoon. The best 25 rider-horse combinations with the least accumulated penalty points after three phases will qualify to the Individual Final to be held later in the evening.

“Tayberry was amazing and looked after me out there. I really enjoyed riding the course,” said Thomas after the competition. “This is an incredible personal achievement for me and I couldn’t be prouder to have represented Hong Kong at the Olympics.”

“Today was one of the best rounds I have ever seen, professional and steady and look after Thomas and horse the whole way round,” said Stephen Way the Team Coach. “We have walked the course 5 times and Thomas alone for the sixth this morning, concentrating on different parts of the course and decision making on the situation.”

“Today was a proud day for Thomas, Tayberry and Hong Kong to have a rider completed clear round at the Olympic Games. It was an outstanding achievement for him, the horse and also all of his team,” said Corinne Bracken the Performance Manager. “The team in Japan has worked hard to get this achievement today and the logistic really helped Thomas focus on what is important for him. We look forward to tomorrow the Showjumping day. The horse will return now to the stable at Equestrian Park, and will be well looked after before tomorrow’s trot up.”

Our best wishes to Thomas and Tayberry for the remaining Jumping competition!

Best Regards,

Hong Kong Equestrian Federation
