Background
My name is Yuddy Cheng; I am a dressage rider on the Hong Kong Youth Development Programme, and an elite athlete for the Hong Kong Sports Institute.
My passion for horses began at a young age, but my riding career only started when I was 11, riding the ponies - and eventually the racehorses - at Clearwater Bay Equestrian Centre.
I initially intended to pursue showjumping, but transitioned to pure dressage in the summer of 2019, when I got the opportunity to train with FEI 4* judge Carlos Lucas Lopes. Afterwards, I moved to Lo Wu Saddle Club to train and compete on Trevor’s Star.
Amidst the pandemic, I gained invaluable experience by training with various professionals; I moved back to Taiwan for the first half of 2021, training at Cornerstone Performance with Portuguese dressage rider João Reis, who developed my riding towards competing at Small Tour. Being the winner of the 2021 Helgstrand Grant, I was invited to train for two weeks at Helgstrand, Denmark during the summer.
Now being based with former Helgstrand riders João and Marta Moreira in Germany, I have acquired my young horse Tolkien (v. Totilas) and stallion Damasco, who I look forward to representing Hong Kong with at upcoming international shows in Europe.
