Samantha Chan awarded the Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards (OJAA) 2019!

 

Dear members,

 

Last week has been an extremely joyful week for Hong Kong equestrian community as our senior riders have achieved marvelous results and brought home 5 medals at the recent Asian Championships Pattaya 2019. On top of the stunning news on our Senior riders, we are pleased to share with you the one of our junior riders, Samantha Chan was awarded the Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards (OJAA) 2019 in recognition of her excellent performance at the 2nd National Youth Games in last August.

 

Organized by the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) and with the support of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and the Hong Kong Sports Press Association (HKSPA), the OJAA 2019 3rd Quarter Prize Presentation Ceremony was held at the HKSI Sports Complex this afternoon (Thursday 12 December 2019). Samantha was presented with cash prize and sports voucher with certificate at the ceremony by Miss Marie-Christine Lee, founder of the Sports for Hope Foundation (SFHF) and Miss Chui Wai-wah, Vice Chairman of HKSPA, followed by a brief interview on her achievement and future target.

 

Sponsored by the SFHF, the OJAA programme is to recognize local young talents on a quarterly basis by selecting athletes with outstanding achievement in international competitions according to the Elite Vote Scoring Table.

 

In this quarter, 30 awardees from 16 associations and 11 recipients of Certificate of Merit were selected by the judging panel of the awards. Being the sole awardee for equestrian sports, Samantha was nominated by the HKEF Training and Selection Sub-Committee (TSSC) and endorse by the Executive Committee for her outstanding performance by earning the Senior Dressage Individual bronze medal – the first ever Hong Kong equestrian medal – at the 2nd National Youth Games.

 

Vincent Capol was awarded the Certificate of Merit at the 4th Quarter OJAA 2018 for winning at the CSIJ Hong Kong 2018. While Nathaniel Chan was awarded for consecutive two years for his awesome achievements at the Asian Equestrian Federation Junior Jumping Championships in 2016 and 2017.
