Samantha Chan became the Bronze medalist at the 2nd National Youth Games!
Monday, 5 August 2019 (Hong Kong) – The 2nd National Youth Games Senior Dressage Individual Final using the FEI Dressage World Challenge Elementary Test was held at the YuLong Jockey Club this morning. Our Hong Kong representatives Samantha Chan and Annabel Dyson competed against 18 finalists from Beijing, Guangdong, Hebei, Shanghai, Xinjiang and Zhejiang at the event.
During the competition this morning, our whole delegation showed up at the competition venue to support the two riders. Annabel Dyson with Puetro Rico had satisfactory performance today, placing 16th with the score of 64.932% at the competition.
Samantha with G. Xiao Liang Liang had excellent performance and won the Bronze Medal with the percentage score of 70.810%, with only 0.811% behind the Gold Medalist, Cao Ye-long from Xinjiang with 71.621%; while Qiu Shu-lian from Guangdong scored 71.554% and claimed the Silver Medal. Medals were determined by the percentage scores at the test.
It was the first time that equestrian events were included in the National Youth Games and it is the first equestrian medal at the 2nd National Youth Games. Being the sole team competing with borrowed horses, the delegation was much delighted to bring home with such an outstanding result from Shanxi.
After the competition, “It was a bonus for me to obtain the Bronze Medal as I didn’t expect that before I came here,” said Samantha. She expressed her thanks to her coach Stephane Morai, Chef d’Equipe Angela Kong and other team members for their efforts achieving this excellent result. Thanks also went to her parents for assisting her throughout the competitions.
The HKEF would like to send our massive congratulations to Samantha Chan for making Hong Kong proud with the Bronze Medal. We would also like to thank Annabel together with Daniella, Claudia and their coach Stephane Morai for their efforts to represent Hong Kong at the competition.
With the Dressage Competitions coming to an end, the Dressage teams will first return tomorrow (Tuesday, 6 August) from Taiyuan back to Hong Kong.
Tomorrow will also be the start of the Show Jumping competitions with the Horse Inspection. Let’s wish our 8 Jumping riders the best of luck at the event!
