Samantha Chan became the winner of the 2nd AEF U21 Dressage Championship Qualifier in Hong Kong
The 2nd Asian Equestrian Federation (AEF) U21 Dressage Championship Qualifier Hong Kong was held last Sunday 10 November 2019 at Beas River Equestrian Centre (BREC). The HKEF is pleased to share with you that Samantha Chan, winner of this qualifier, will be Hong Kong’s representative to compete at the Championship Final scheduled in early April 2020!
5 riders, namely Samantha Chan, Venus Chan, Ethan Chung, Annabel Dyson and Charmaine Fu, competed at the Qualifier using the FEI Dressage World Challenge Senior I Test. We were honoured to have Colonel Sunil Shivdas from India (FEI Level 4 Dressage Judge) and Ms. Wan Ming Ong from Singapore (FEI Level 2 Dressage Judge) as our Qualifier’s judges. At the end of the competition, Samantha Chan with her horse, Luciano became the Champion with 69.108% followed by Charmaine Fu with 64.464%.
Inaugurated in 2018, the AEF U21 Dressage Championship was designed for riders under the age of 21. This year, 11 National Federations including Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Qatar, Singapore, Taipei, Thailand and Uzbekistan will be participating in the Final by hosting a qualifier in their own country.
Being the winner of the Qualifier in Hong Kong, Samantha will become one of the 16 Finalists including the 11 best riders from qualifiers, 3 additional best riders from the combined zone ranking lists and 2 riders from the final hosting National Federation at the Championship Final scheduled from 2 – 5 April 2020 (final venue to be announced) on borrowed horses.
In last August, Samantha has achieved the first ever Individual Dressage Bronze Medal at the 2nd National Youth Games in China. Congratulations to Samantha and we wish her the best of luck at the Championship Final next year!
